Staples Students Perform In All-State Music Festival

WESTPORT, Conn. – Seven student musicians from Westport’s Staples High School performed in the Connecticut All-State Music Festival last week as members of the band and orchestra ensembles.

French horn players Jodie Baris and Ari Teicher performed with the All-State Band. Violinists Monique Medina, Danlei Wang and Terrie Yang, along with viola player Kevin Xiang, performed with the All-State Orchestra. 

Jack Stamp, chairman of the music department at Indiana University of Pennsylvania, conducted the band. The orchestra was led by William Boughton, music director and conductor of the New Haven Symphony.

The festival was held last Tuesday through Thursday at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Cromwell. It was the opening event of the Eastern Division Music Educators Conference, sponsored by the National Association for Music Education.
