Staples High School Freshman Wins Poetry, Nonfiction Awards

WESTPORT, Conn. -- Emily Schussheim, who is now a freshman at Staples High School in Westport, was awarded first place in both the Poetry and Nonfiction Middle School Categories at the 35th Annual Trumbull Arts Festival Literary Competition.

Schussheim’s winning poetry entry entitled “My All” about the inspiration and safety a teenage girl finds in the sanctuary of her own room.

She also won for her entry of a nonfiction piece, “On the Clasped Hands of Giants.” The story describes an intimate ski experience with nature.

Winning pieces were published in PenWorks, the literary journal of the Festival. 

The Trumbull Arts Festival is sponsored by the Arts Commission, which promotes arts in Trumbull.
