Helen Keller Middle School will be without a principal come June 30 unless a replacement can be found for interim principal Dr. Lyn Merrill. Merrill took over last year after long-time principal Joan Parker left because of failing health. Cancer took Parker's life in November, and the Easton community wants someone to carry on her well-established legacy.
The Easton Board of Education recently asked superintendent Dr. Michael Cicchetti to initiate a principal search effective immediately. The school system needs "to have as much time as possible to provide a seamless leadership transition once Dr. Merrill's tenure comes to an end," Cicchetti stated in a letter to the community.
"Please know that you have my commitment to find the highest-quality administrator to support and sustain the excellent work of Mrs. Parker and the Helen Keller staff," he continued.
Cicchetti -- who announced his retirement last year and is also leaving in June -- will conduct a parent focus group in early March. "I encourage you to attend so that I can better understand your priorities for the future leadership of Helen Keller Middle School," he said.
