Joel Barlow Stuffs a Bus for Troops

EASTON, Conn. — Students at Joel Barlow High School will stuff an entire school bus full of supplies, letters, cards and food Friday afternoon and ship it out to men and women serving in the military.

“I have to say, this is a wonderful project. I am amazed at their commitment. These kids did a great job,” said Karen Sullivan, an adviser with the high school's Achieving With Integrity Club.

The Achieving With Integrity Club organized the Stuff A Bus For The Troops event in honor of Veterans Day and collected various supplies. When word spread of what the project, the whole Joel Barlow community jumped on board.

An English class at the school collected paperback books, the girl’s volleyball team collected toys for the Toys For Tots campaign, and several Barlow students wrote letters and cards to the troops as a way to remind them that someone is thinking about them over the holidays.

And it wasn’t just the high school donating items — the Achieving With Integrity Club set up donation boxes throughout the community, including at John Read Middle School, Redding Elementary School and the Redding Community Center, where they collected beef jerky, coffee, baby wipes, hand sanitizer, batteries, video games and cotton T-shirts, among other items.
