EASTON, Conn. Students from Joel Barlow High School have moved on to the second round of the MSG Varsity academic quiz show, The Challenge.
In their next match up, Barlow will take on students from Fairfields Green's Farm Academy on March 13. The Barlow team is comprised of Stephen Tschudi, Ben Lewson, Amy Kaplan, David King and Lia Cirelli. The teams academic adviser is Michael Ecsedy.
We got off to a great start with so many close games in the first round and expect the competition to heat up as we head towards the championship rounds, said Theresa Chillianis, MSG Varsity general manager.
On the show, Jared Cotter - an "American Idol" semi-finalist - asks students questions in history, art and literature, current events, math and science in front of a studio audience.
Winning teams will advance through a series of elimination rounds, with one school in each region being crowned regional champion and winning $2,500. The winning teams from each region go on to The Challenge championship, where they square off in a tri-state showdown.
The tri-state champion will receive $10,000 and each student participating in the final Challenge championship game will receive $500.
Check out Joel Barlow in action on March 13, at 6:30 p.m., on MSG Varsity, which is channel 14 on Cablevision.
