Joel Barlow Students to Show Winning Jewelry

EASTON, Conn. - Award winning jewelry by Joel Barlow High School students will be exhibited at the Easton library though May 15. 

The 12-piece exhibition, which starts today, includes pieces created over the last three years. A piece by Maxine Pelligra, of Easton, won first place at the 2012 National Juried High School Metals Exhibition in Greenville, S.C. Erica Loder won the best craftsmanship award.

"This is a one-time, not-to-be-missed opportunity to see the best of the best from Joel Barlow High School" said Lee Skalkos, the metal teacher at Joel Barlow High School. 

In the last six years, Barlow students have won two best-in-show awards, 12 gold medals, eight silver medals, four Binney and Smith awards and four best jewelry in show awards. 

"We also had the honor of coming in third at the Saul Bell National Design Award in 2010, which is known worldwide as being one of the largest metal competitions in the world," Skalkos said. 

The Easton Public Library is located at 691 Morehouse Road.
