Hurlbutt Awarded a $500 Check

What began as a tweet turned into a $500 check for Hurlbutt Elementary School. Pasquale Sacchetta was following TheDailyWeston on Twitter when he saw something interesting. "He's the social media guru in the family," said Pasquale's wife, Jodi, who serves on the board of the Hurlbutt PTO. "We both follow TheDailyWeston on Twitter. He saw the tweet and told me to look into it for Hurlbutt." [breakhere]

The tweet was for the Better Schools Bonanza promotion offered by Main Street Connect, the publisher of this local news web site and nine others in lower Fairfield County. Jodi told her fellow PTO volunteers about the offer. They spread the word and it wasn't long before 100 readers had registered with TheDailyWeston. Friday, the Hurlbutt PTO was given a $500 check by Main Street Connect President John Falcone.

PTO president Caroline Schreder said the money will go toward the PTO's Family Fun Night, where parents and their children enjoy quality time with one another and other community members.

The Better Schools Bonanza promotion ends Monday. A $10,000 first prize will be given to the school that gets the most votes. The second place school will receive $5,000.

To date, nearly two dozen schools have received $500 checks from Main Street Connect. Schreder thought the odds of winning $10,000 were slim given the higher population at other schools, but she was more than happy to have the $500.

"We're thrilled to have it," she said. Falcone noted that the purpose of the promotion is to help the schools, and that TheDailyWeston serves the community. "We want this to be your site," he said.
