EASTON, Conn. Eastons middle-schoolers are getting ready to strut their stuff on the catwalk at the schools fashion show Oct. 14.
More than 25 student models will showcase clothing from Life is Good, Cargo Bay, Dress Code, Harpers and Mitchells, said Emily Powell, secretary of the eighth-grade government.
Matt Pagliaro, a 2006 Joel Barlow High School graduate, will supply the lighting for the fashion show.
There will be four lights on either side of the catwalk. It will be like a real fashion show, said Pagliaro, founder and CEO of Two Basses and a Harmonica Productions. He will also be filming the show.
This fundraiser is the first of many to benefit an outdoor classroom to honor former principal Joan Parker, who died in November.
The students brainstormed plans for a memorial last school year and came up with the fashion show idea, said Scott Bindelglass, president of the eighth-grade government.
We thought it would be fun and get people to participate, said Emily.
There will also be a silent auction and desserts at the Oct. 14 event, which will be from 7 to 9 p.m. at Helen Keller Middle School. This is the main event for fundraising for Parkers memorial.
It was Mrs. Parkers dream to someday have an outdoor classroom, said Nancy Culliton, teacher and student council adviser at Helen Keller Middle School.
The classroom will overlook the grounds, the pond and the field, said Jennifer Rose, also a teacher and student council adviser at the middle school. It will look like a small amphitheater with block seating, and a stone path will lead from the school to the classroom.
Cement handprints from the 2010 graduating eighth-grade class will decorate the block seats. The design and construction will be completed by Fosters Inc., Landscape Design and Installation. Rose said she hopes the classroom will be completed by November. The school hopes to raise $16,000 for the project.
