EASTON, Conn. Several Easton students from Joel Barlow High School raised a record $15,000 during the annual Catwalk for a Cure fashion show, which benefits Bridgeport Hospitals Norma F. Pfriem Breast Care Center.
The money will be used to provide breast care care, including mammograms, to women with little or no insurance.
The students are moved when they learn about the impact of breast cancer on women and their families, says Robin Righter of the Norma F. Pfriem Breast Care Center. Many of them have family members who have been touched by the disease. They are so excited about this project and so dedicated to helping women in need. We are lucky to have their help.
The fashion show took place on Oct. 23 at Fairfields Brooklawn Country Club. For the past several years, area high schools have held a Catwalk for a Cure fashion show to benefit breast cancer care at the center. The series began in Fairfield and has spread to Easton, Trumbull and Weston.
Businesses that donated clothing for the fashion show included Une Minette, of Wilton; La Moda, Cargo Bay and Apricot Lane, of Fairfield; and Dress Code and J McLaughlin, of Westport.
The 55-member committee of high school students who oversaw was led by Joel Barlow senior Gayle Powell and juniors Stephanie Babcock and Sarah McCain.
The fashion is all about the students taking the lead, and these kids did a great job, said Righter.
