Easton Eighth Grade Grads Cross Another Road

Aerin Reed reflected on her years at Helen Keller Middle School in Easton, where she and her classmates came in as "excited, nervous little 11-year-olds" and are now graduating, ready to take on Joel Barlow High School.

"We have been lighthouses and guidance for each other when we were lost at sea," Aerin said during the school's class of 2011 graduation Tuesday night at Joel Barlow High School in Redding.

Always remember to keep balanced, Dan Underberger, chairman of the Easton Board of Education, told the students. "Too much studying and not enough fun is almost just as bad as too much fun," said Underberger.

Ryan Wendt compared himself and his classmates to the chicken who crossed the road. "Why did the chicken cross the road? Because he had a purpose, and he wanted to achieve something," said Ryan. He said moving from middle school to high school is just another road he and his classmates have to cross, and there will certainly be many more roads to cross in the future.

Thirty-three students were recognized for attaining high honors for the 2010-11 school year. The Class of 2011 marched out of gym to the sound of Miley Cyrus' "Wherever I Go."
