WESTON, Conn. Thirteen new teachers in four schools will be at the head of the class when Weston students return Aug. 27.
Weston High School has added three new teachers. Weston Middle School has five, Weston Intermediate School has two and Hurlbutt Elementary School will have three.
Superintendent of Schools Colleen Palmer said 13 new teachers isnt a large number of new educators. With resignations, relocations and maternity leaves a number of new positions opened up, she said.
Jean Bakes, a math and business teacher; Geoffrey Brencher, a videography teacher; and Janine Russo, a math teacher, will all start at Weston High School.
Bakes taught math at New Canaan High School and was an accounting professor at Western Connecticut State University. Brencher taught at Terryville High School and Robert E. Fitch Senior High School in Groton, where he was also a baseball coach. Russo taught at Greenwich Central Middle School for five years.
The new staff at Weston Middle School includes Lindsay Fuchs, a French teacher; Sarah Kiska and Thomas Regusa, special education; Brenna Lindsay, math; and Vincent Lore, Project Lead the Way.
Fuchs student-taught at Helen Keller Middle School in Easton and was a substitute at Fairfield Warde High School. Kiska has been a substitute teacher in Weston. Regusa taught at the Achievement First Bridgeport Elementary School. Lindsay student-taught at the Middlebrook School in Wilton. Lore taught at the Elm City College Preparatory School in New Haven and the Bronx High School for Writing and Communications Arts.
Weston Intermediate School adds Leslie Baldwin, a third grade teacher, and Barbara Skrebutenas in music.
Baldwin taught third grade at Coleytown Elementary School in Westport and fourth grade at Wooster School in Danbury. Skrebutenas taught for 33 years in the Wolcott public schools, concentrating on band, general music, piano, guitar and chorus.
New to the staff at Hurlbutt Elementary School are Amy Jonsson, a math intervention teacher and Lauren Lynfield and Nicole Morgado, second-grade teachers.
Jonsson taught at Kings Highway Elementary School in Westport. Lynfield and Morgado have been substitute teachers in Weston and Westport.
