A descendant of the Warburg banking dynasty, he served as a trustee on the MoMA's board from 1932 to 1958.

Warburg also started the American Ballet - George Balanchine's first American company - in 1933. At the time, ballet was little known in the United States.

Set on 2 acres next to the Aspetuck River, the 13-room home built in 1785 has gated entries, stone walls, English garden, pool, spa, tennis court and meadows.

At the time Warburg owned it, the estate encompassed 40 acres. Today, 37 of those acres now form the Newman-Poses Nature Preserve.

Warburg died in 1992. The property is now owned by Christine Romann, who bought it for $1.05 million in 1993.
