The 5,775 square foot home is listed for $3,695,000 by Gail Lilley Zawacki of Coldwell Banker. The home in the prestigious Old Hill neighborhood includes five bedrooms, six bathrooms and two partial baths.

The Colonial Contemporary was built in 1944 and renovated in 2007-2009 with new stonework, roof, windows, additional plumbing, central air and updated electrical. The home now features many “Smart House” features. A cabana was built in 2006.

The owners and designers paid attention to detail in renovating the house, creating a collage of modern to retro, East meets West. The website calls the home a “Malibu of Creativity, Freedom and Unabashed Luxury.”

Architects Elizabeth Jahn of Westport and Anne Nixon from New York City created the plans for the massive remodeling, while Domus Construction rebuilt the home. Dany Lennon handled the interior design, with elements from Germany, India, France and New Mexico.

"You literally feel you are on vacation in another country….in Morocco, Mexico, Thailand, Hawaii, or Malibu, and definitely a resort warmth and sense of style,’’ Zawacki said. “Filled with open spaces, and what I call a ‘Speak Easy’ room with a surprise around every corner including the thoughtful organization, color schemes, architectural design and custom furnishings."

Handmade mahogany doors from New Mexico greet guest at the home’s entry. The kitchen features handmade custom cabinets from Germany, copper counters, stainless steel sink and Wolfe commercial stove. There is also a built-in organizational pantry.

The dining room features ebony floors, columns from India and handmade Shoji doors of steel and glass.

The living room includes Italian lighting, handmade ceramic tiles and bark from New Mexico. The family room is similarly creative, with a custom sofa, exotic wood shelving, Zebra wood paneling and a polished concrete fireplace.

There is is also an office and wet bar on the first floor, along with a guest room and the cabana. A bathroom accesses a heated pool and a second floor guest bedroom.

The creativity continues on the second floor, where the master bedroom includes handmade mahogany doors, built-ins from Germany, wine cooler, coffee maker, kitchen, spa-like open bath, double sinks and enclosed water closet with shower.

The second floor also includes two more bedrooms and a recreation room. An exercise room, wine cellar and “speakeasy”, a New York-style recreation room with with commercial linoleum floor is on the lower level.

The exterior includes a terraced lounge area, in-ground mineral pool, outdoor lighting and sprinkler system. There are also speakers with indoor and outdoor music and terrace with a firepit.

The home is also conveniently located close to the Merritt Parkway, Interstate 95, train station and downtown Westport.

“I have heard everything from ’museum quality’, an ’exquisite high tech vision and flow’ and ’loving the contrasts of materials and textures’ and ‘so refreshing to see something unique,'" Zawacki said. “Interior design is a passion for the seller and she is an artist as well. It is a very unusual home on the inside yet classic and attractive stone and shingle on the outside, in a very sought after area.”
