Historic Colonial Farmhouse For Sale in Weston

WESTON, Conn. – The address is 227 Lyons Plains Road in Weston, but it’s also known as Chestnut Farm. The historic property, built by Samuel Merwin Banks in 1838, features a 4,595-square-foot colonial farmhouse, a large barn, an in-ground swimming pool and 13.78 acres of rolling fields.

The property is for sale for $2.85 million with an opportunity to purchase the farmhouse on 3-plus acres for $1.249 million and the remaining 10-plus acres for $1.6 million, which can be subdivided into five lots.

The property has never been previously sold, having been passed down from generation to generation since 1838. Three Weston first selectmen have lived there, including George Guidera, the current owner.

The house retains its colonial charm, with original trim and old window glass, pocket doors, antique chestnut floors, cedar closets and an antique staircase.

But it also includes many modern conveniences, from the Wagner in-ground swimming pool with a cabana and equipment shed, to the new family room and study on the first floor and two bedrooms and full bath on the second floor.

The Georgian-colonial-style house features 13 rooms, with five bedrooms, four full baths and one half bath, plus four fireplaces. It also features a studio guest apartment above a three-car garage.

More than 170 red, pink and white flowering crabapple, dogwood and chestnut trees have been planted in the fields surrounding the house, amid the open farm meadows and tall summer grass that distinguish the property.

The bright red barn, the second largest original farm barn in Weston, features most of its original doors that are tall and wide enough to admit hay wagons. The current and previous owners have kept horses on the property.
