WESTON, Conn. Weston First Selectman Gayle Weinstein considered suing CL&P for gross negligence following the severe storm on Sept. 18 that left hundreds of town homes without power and roads unsafe with downed wires.
We cant sue them but Ill take the next step because they didnt follow through with their procedures, Weinstein said.
Weinsteins comments at Monday nights Board of Selectmen meeting had an immediate impact. Mitch Gross, a spokesman for CL&P said the company is scheduled to meet with Weinstein early next week. We are concerned when customers have issues and are fully committed to working year round to improve storm restoration response, he said. We are meeting with Ms. Weinstein next week to discuss her concerns.
Weinstein said CL&P served larger towns quickly, while delaying service to Weston. 500 customers on Godfrey Road didnt have their power restored until Sept. 19 while neighboring towns had power turned on Sept. 18, she said.
On Good Hill Road a tree fell and a fire was caused by broken wires that was sparking all night, she said. Its negligence and a question of safety. Im not asking for power to be turned on immediately but theyre supposed to have the roads safe. If I let it go, what will happen this winter with power outages?
Weinstein said she will work with the attorney generals office to insure CL&P is following its procedures to handle downed wires and power outages during severe storms.
