Daniel beat out incumbent Democrat Gayle Weinstein for the endorsement.

In a statement from the Republican Party, Daniel spoke out about the rising taxes in town.

"In four years, Connecticut's economy grew a dismal 0.42 percent cumulatively, which is a major factor keeping Weston’s Grand List growth stagnant," she said. "Median income in Weston is flat or declining while taxes increase relentlessly. Those responsible at the State level for this economic climate would like to encroach on our town's independence. If we are to retain local control of our taxes, land and schools, Weston must elect leaders who will not endorse failed policies coming from Hartford."

For Daniel, it is an issue of leadership.

"Weston's immediate challenge is the quality of leadership in the office of the First Selectman," she said. "The incumbent first selectman frequently boasts of 'fiscal responsibility.'

"That seems to apply to others while for herself she proposes a new first selectman's office suite with conference room as part of a costly town facilities upgrade and promotes a 42 percent raise in her own salary," she said.

"As your next first selectman, I will reverse these questionable practices," Daniel said. "I will work collaboratively with other boards and commissions to reduce spending without jeopardizing the quality or safety of our schools. I will put tax relief at the top of my list of priorities and find less expensive ways to address facility needs. I will protect our most vulnerable citizens and families struggling to remain in the community."
