Weston-Easton-Redding Pick Senate Candidates

WESTON, Conn. – Voters in Weston, Easton and Redding followed Connecticut voters in choosing U.S. Rep. Chris Murphy in the Democratic U.S. Senate primary. And while Easton and Redding picked Republican statewide winner Linda McMahon, Weston voters went with former Congressman Chris Shays.

McMahon, former CEO of WWE who was the Republican candidate for Senate in 2010, topped Shays by 255 to 189 votes in Easton and 329 to 306 in Redding. Weston voters preferred Shays, with 338 votes to 263 for McMahon.

Murphy defeated Bysiewicz in all three towns: 281-43 in Weston, 133-51 in Easton and 331-72 in Redding.

Turnout was light. In Redding, 635 Republican votes were cast out of 2,193 registered voters and 403 out of 1,999 registered Democrats voted.

The race between McMahon and Murphy for Joe Lieberman's seat will get national attention.
