Westport Police: Whole Foods Employee Used Fake Transactions To Steal

WESTPORT, Conn. -- A Bridgeport woman was charged with creating fake transactions to steal money from the Westport Whole Foods where she worked, according to police.

Westport Police responded to the Whole Foods on Post Road West in December on a larceny complaint. They were told that an employee, 20-year-old Shamonie Gibson of Bridgeport, had been creating fake transactions and returning funds into her own personal account, police said. She would use a supervisor's information to complete fake returns on a day when the supervisor was not working, according to police.

The transactions took place between August and December, police said. When Gibson was interviewed by officers, she admitted to the fraudulent transactions, according to police. A warrant was issued for Gibson's arrest, and she turned herself in on Tuesday.

Gibson was charged with second-degree larceny and released on a $25,000 bond. She will appear in court on April 24.
