WESTPORT, Conn. The Westport Police Department charged two people Saturday night with the attempted theft of copper from a house under construction on Stony Brook Road, police said.
According to police, a Westport resident reported suspicious activity at the construction site and when officers arrived on the scene they saw a car leaving the driveway.
Norwalk residents Christopher Rodia, 42, and Cassandre Scire, 19, were in the car, according to the police report, and were stopped when the police saw a large amount of copper in the back seat.
Westport Police Capt. John Calka said that since the investigation is still in the early stages, the exact value of the copper is unknown at this time.
Both Rodia and Scire were held during a search of the property when it was found that the copper in the car had been a part of a gutter system at the construction site, police said.
Scire was charged with felony larceny, conspiracy to commit larceny in the third degree, criminal mischief in the first degree, criminal trespassing in the third degree. She was issued a $2,500 bond and a court date of Aug. 7 in Norwalk.
Rodia was charged with felony larceny, conspiracy to commit larceny in the third degree, criminal mischief in the first degree, criminal trespassing in the third degree, possession of narcotics and failure to carry prescription drugs in the prescribed container. He was given a bond of $10,000 and a court date of Aug. 7 in Norwalk.
