Westport Police Hold Prescription Drug Collection Day

WESTPORT, Conn. — Westport residents will once again have the opportunity to rid their homes of expired, unused or unwanted prescription medications this Saturday during a prescription drug take-back event at Westport Town Hall.

From 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., residents can bring these medications to Town Hall, 110 Myrtle Ave., for disposal, no questions asked. The service is also free.

Flushing unused medications down the toilet or throwing them in the trash can pose potential health and safety hazards. This event provides residents with a safe method of disposal.

The take-back event is a nationwide initiative led by the Drug Enforcement Administration and local police departments to decrease prescription drug abuse rates. Since the initiative was started in 2010, the DEA reports  over 2 million pounds of prescription drugs were turned in at thousands of locations across the country.
