In the early morning of Friday, Nov. 17, an officer conducting stationary radar on Wilton Road saw a vehicle traveling 52 mph in a 35 mph zone, police said.
The officer stopped the motor vehicle and identified the driver as Andrew Merritt, 26, of Fairfield, police said.
A backup officer saw a prescription pill container inside the vehicle that was later found to contain a plastic bag with a brown powder and unknown pills, police said.
Merritt said the powder was heroin, and the pills were later identified as a controlled substance that did not match the label on the prescription bottle, police said.
The powder later tested positive for heroin, police said.
Merritt was taken into custody and charged with two counts of possession of a controlled substance/narcotics and failure to keep narcotics in their original container.
He was unable to post $500 bond and was transported to Norwalk Superior Court later that morning for arraignment.
