Remington Woodhull, 25, of Westport was charged with possession of narcotics. His bond was set at $1,500 and his first scheduled court date is Jan. 10.
At 12:09 a.m. Friday, Officer James Loomer was on routine patrol and pulled over a motor vehicle for a speeding violation, police said.
After speaking with the driver, Loomer could see that he was extremely nervous, police said.
As a result, Loomer believed the driver may have been hiding contraband in the vehicle despite the protestations of the driver that there wasn't anything illegal in the vehicle, police said.
Unfortunately for the driver, Loomer had Atlas, his police service dog with him and the dog was able to sniff out an area where a small amount of heroin was secreted, police said.
