Officers called to Citibank at 399 Post Road W. about the check incident were notified that the suspect's vehicle was still in the area, police said. It was located on Post Road West near Kings Highway and was stopped, police said.

The driver was identified as Selwyn Forteau, 19, of Brooklyn, N.Y., and he had a teenage passenger in the car, police said. (The teenager's name was not released because he is under 18.) When officers approached the vehicle, they detected the odor of marijuana and were able to confirm the vehicle had left the Citibank branch after the attempt to cash a fraudulent check, police said.

The juvenile had gone to the bank to deposit a Citibank check, using a Citibank debit card and PIN to identify himself, police said. Citibank personnel were aware of a fraudulent check attempt at the other Citibank location in Westport, and they noticed the check presented matched the name and account from the earlier attempt, police said.

Officers took the Citibank employee to the motor vehicle stop, where the employe positively identified the juvenile as the suspect, police said.

During the investigation, several bags of marijuana were found in the teenager's possession, police said.

Forteau was charged with third-degree forgery, conspiracy to commit third-degree forgery, attempted fourth-degree larceny, conspiracy to commit fourth degree larceny, conspiracy to commit criminal impersonation and fourth-degree larceny.

His bond was set at $10,000, and his first scheduled court appearance is on Wednesday.

The juvenile male was also charged with third-degree forgery, conspiracy to commit third-degree larceny, criminal attempt at fourth-degree larceny, conspiracy to commit fourth-degree larceny, criminal impersonation, conspiracy to commit criminal impersonation and possession of less than a half-ounce of marijuana.
