Police charged Natalie Bonny, 33, with two counts of risk of injury to a child in connection with the March 29 incident, said police.
Westport officers responded to two locations about 8 p.m. on reports of unattended children, according to police.
Officers found a 5-year-old at Walgreens at 880 Post Road East, being assisted by a woman who found the child alone, said police.
Officers also located a 1-year-old alone in the area of Toyota of Westport, 777 Post Road East, according to police. The child was found by a group of adults in the area, said police.
Officers determined the children were siblings and where they lived, according to police.
Police found the children's mother, Natalie Bonny, at her residence, police said.
She told officers that she had left the children home alone while she took the bus to go shopping, according to police.
Bonny was taken into custody and arrested, said police.
Her bond was set at $20,000 bond and she is due in court Friday, according to police.
The Department of Children and Families is continuing to investigate the matter, police said.
