Westport Man, 19, Charged In Store Burglary

WESTPORT, Conn. – A 19-year-old Westport man is facing a felony charge after a Sunday night burglary at the Athletic Shoe Factory, 1560 Post Road E., police said.

Jonathan Loeser, of Bonnie Brook Road, is accused of burglarizing the shop, police said. At about 6:20 p.m., police responded to an activated alarm at the store. Upon arrival, officers saw a rear window propped open and merchandise from the store stacked up on the ground outside, the police report said.

The building was searched and was empty, police said. More merchandise, along with a sweatshirt and a duffel bag, was found behind the nearby ASF Outdoors at 1554 Post Road E., the report said. Officers set up a perimeter in the area and called in the Westport K9 Unit.

K9 Officer James Loomer and Police Service Dog Koda tracked from the rear window of the Athletic Shoe Factory, behind the neighboring stores and out to Maple Avenue South, police said. The trail continued to Post Road East and then west toward the Pier 1 parking lot.  There, officers located Loeser, who was walking away, the report said.

Loeser was detained without incident, and officers connected evidence from the burglary scene directly to him, police said. Loeser was charged with third-degree burglary, a felony, and sixth-degree larceny, a misdemeanor. He was held on $10,000 bond and is due at Norwalk Superior Court on April 10.
