Police officers, EMS and the Westport Fire Department responded to the 911 call at 8:45 a.m. and found Kate Procaccini in labor. Responders determined that Proaccini was too close to giving birth and delivered the baby in her bedroom, officials said.
Proaccini and the baby were taken to Norwalk Hospital, and both are in good health.
“This is a once in a career opportunity for our guys,” Lt. Eric Woods said. “I could not be happier for them, but even more excited for the family.”
The first responders who helped deliver the baby, named Mila Joy, as well as the mother and father visited at the hospital on Thursday.
“I just wanted to thank you all for everything you did," John Proaccini said. "This is the stuff that goes above and beyond typical duties. We are beyond grateful.”
