Shortly before 11 a.m., Westport Fire Dispatch received a report of smoke in the building at 9 Colonial Road.
Three engines, a ladder truck and two command staff vehicles arrived to find the house filling with smoke. The first arriving engine stretched an attack hose line and quickly extinguished the fire, which was contained to the area around the fireplace.
During the structure fire, Westport Fire Units were also working at the scene of a motor vehicle accident on Riverside Avenue, where a car had struck a utility pole.

While units were busy at these two incidents, Westport Fire Dispatch received four additional calls that required responses from the Fairfield, Norwalk and Wilton Fire Departments to assist Westport.
"The Westport Fire Department would like to thank all the agencies who provided assistance to the town during these incidents," the Westport Fire Department said in a statement.
