Firefighters were dispatched to the home on Jackie Lane at 4:19 p.m. Sunday on a report of a chimney fire. The fire was reported by a neighbor who was out walking with their children, fire officials said.

Two engine companies, a truck company and a shift commander responded. The first arriving engine reported smoke coming from the roof area around the chimney and began investigating, fire officials said.

The response was upgraded to a structure fire, bringing two additional engines, with one assigned for manpower and the other designated as a Rapid Intervention Team.

The fire was located and confined to the chimney area at the roof line and above, fire officials said. Firefighters quickly extinguished the blaze and found no extensions into the residence or attic areas. No injuries were reported in the incident.

The cause of the fire is currently under investigation by the fire marshal's office.

Residents are reminded to have their chimneys cleaned and inspected annually by a licensed chimney company.

The Fairfield Fire Department dispatched an engine to the Westport Fire Headquarters to stand by while Westport firefighters responded to the Jackie Lane blaze.
