Domenic Demace, 47, of Oak Street, was charged with first-degree reckless endangerment, unlawful discharge of a firearm and risk of injury to a child in the 6 a.m. incident, police said.
Westport detectives were called to Norwalk Hospital, where Demace was being treated for a gunshot wound to the left thigh, police said. Demace told officers he was cleaning the gun when it accidentally went off.
Police searched Demace’s home and sought an arrest warrant. He was charged with risk of injury because there was a juvenile in the home at the time of the incident.
Demace was held on $25,000 bond and is expected in court on April 17.
