Kronick was deployed with the White Mountain National Forest Fire Crew #1 on July 16. He was one of six members of the Connecticut Interstate Fire Crew, which is part of the state Department of Energy and Environmental Protection.
The DEEP maintains a roster of state firefighters who are certified to fight wildfires, which allows Connecticut to participate in a reciprocal aid program through the U.S. Forest Service.
The crew served in Craigmont, Idaho, and Philipsburg, Mont., working with firefighters from across the country.
Last year, Kronick and Chief Robert Yost both assisted in Idaho and Wyoming. Kronick has been deployed several times previously, including to fires in California and Quebec.
