REDDING, Conn. - A one-car accident Oct. 14 on Route 7 prompted police chief Douglas Fuchs to call for the State Traffic Commission to examine the road.
Kelly Demasi, 36, of Brookfield, slid off the road and struck a directional sign, police said. She was transported to Danbury Hospital and her car was towed.
The accident, which occurred on a curve on the road near the Days Inn motel, was the 18th crash on that section of the road in 2012 with two serious accidents, Fuchs said.
"The commission can look at the signage, the speed limit and the illumination on the road," he said. "Accidents frequently occur in inclement weather when people lose control of their cars more easily."
The excessive number of accidents is also "a manpower issue," Fuchs said, with police having to oversee road closures.
In other Redding police news, a car struck a police cruiser Oct. 11 on Picketts Ridge Road. Rachel Bermingham, 43, of Redding, received a written warning for failure to grant right of way at a stop sign. She was hospitalized after the accident and the officer was uninjured, Fuchs said.
