Officer James Baker noticed a vehicle driving south on Interstate 95 without a working left brake light at about 2:15 p.m. Thursday, police said. The vehicle was stopped, and the driver consented to a body search after he was asked to exit the vehicle, police said.
During the search. Baker found in the driver's pocket what was alleged to be a pipe used for smoking crack cocaine, police said. The officer put the crack pipe in the trunk of the vehicle and then handcuffed the driver, police said.
Despite being handcuffed, the driver reached into the trunk grabbed the crack pipe, dropped it to the ground and stepped on it breaking it into multiple pieces, police said.
Charged with tampering with evidence, interfering with an officer and possession of drug paraphernalia is Charles Vosgueritchian, 37, of 47 West Parish Road.
His bond was set at $2,500 and he is scheduled to appear in court on Thursday.
