According to police, Paul Byron was driving a gray Ford SUV when he crashed into a tree. As emergency personnel tended to Byron, the investigating officer took note of his glassy eyes, slurred speech and an odor of an alcoholic beverage on his breath, police said.

A search warrant for the hospital toxicology reports revealed that Byron was operating a motor vehicle with a blood alcohol level of .23, which is more than double the state’s legal threshold of .08, police said.

Byron turned himself in to police on Oct. 23 after learning that there was an active warrant for his arrest, police said. He was processed and released on $50,000 bond pending a Nov. 4, court date.
