Officers from the Westport Police Department were dispatched to the Sherwood Island Connector lot at approximately 2 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 15, where there was a report of an assault in the commuter lot involving a man and woman.
According to police in Westport, a witness offered a description of the registration on the car, which investigators said led to the determination that two people had been involved in an altercation on I-95 before exiting the roadway. Once they were stopped in the commuter lot, police said a second physical altercation ensued, involving one suspect, later identified as Tyris Peterson.
Police said that during the altercation, Peterson’s victim fell to the ground. The victim was treated for facial injuries but declined further medical treatment at the scene of the incident.
Peterson was arrested and charged with assault and breach of peace for a fight that could cause a minor injury. Peterson was released on $2,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in court on a later date to respond to the charges.
