WESTON, Conn. A Bridgeport man accused of driving into a Redding police car and fighting with police before being tasered will return to court Aug. 2 to answer charges in connection with the incident Friday night in Weston.
Jaime Gonzalez, 39, was arraigned in court Monday on a number of felony and misdemeanor charges, and his $250,000 surety bond was upheld. Gonzalez is being held in a Bridgeport jail.
The felony charges against Gonzalez include two counts of assault second degree, two counts of assault on a police officer and four counts of criminal mischief. The misdemeanor charges include three counts of reckless endangerment, three counts of breach of peace, three counts of interfering with a police officer and one count of threatening, Weston police said.
The incident began Friday evening at 6 p.m. when Gonzalez's vehicle allegedly collided with a car on Newtown Avenue near the Godfrey Road intersection in Weston, police said. Weston police were called to the scene and contacted Redding police for help. Gonzalez drove away in a black sedan and allegedly hit a Redding police car. He then fled on foot pursued by Weston and Redding police and eventually was tasered by Redding police, according to the police report.
Gonzalez also allegedly smashed his arm through the window of a Redding police car, Redding police said.
He was taken to Norwalk Hospital, then returned to Weston where he spent Saturday and Sunday in lock-up before appearing in court Monday.
