Duo Charged With Stealing From Westport Stop & Shop

WESTPORT, Conn. – A man and woman from Bridgeport are facing shoplifting charges in Westport after police said they stole from Stop & Shop, 1790 Post Road E.

Officers were called to the grocery store Saturday night on a report that a couple walked out with a shopping cart containing bags full of items they did not pay for, police said. Shortly after, a man and woman matching the couple’s description were spotted walking east on the Post Road near the Fairfield line with two green Stop & Shop bags, according to the police report.

The pair was stopped and identified as Mary Keegan and Derek Denner, who live at the same Bridgeport address.

Denner, 24, was charged with sixth-degree larceny and conspiracy to commit sixth-degree larceny, both misdemeanors. He was originally held on $500 bond and later released on a promise to appear at Norwalk Superior Court on April 16.

Keegan, 23, was also charged with sixth-degree larceny and conspiracy. It was later discovered she was wanted by New Milford police for failure to appear. She was held on $500 bond for the larceny charges and $3,500 for the failure to appear charge and arraigned at Norwalk Superior Court on Monday morning.
