Driver Takes Out Utility Pole In Westport Crash

WESTPORT, Conn. – An unidentified driver crashed into a utility pole Monday night on Bayberry Lane in Westport, causing the pole to snap, police said. The driver was not seriously injured.

The accident happened at about 6:50 p.m. The driver was headed north on Bayberry Lane in a 2008 Buick SUV when the vehicle struck a utility pole off the northbound lane, bringing down the pole and wires, police said.

The driver, the only occupant in the SUV, was treated by Westport EMS and transferred to Norwalk Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, police said. Connecticut Light & Power crews were called to the scene, and power was shut off in the area, police said.

Both the north and southbound traffic lanes near 146 Bayberry Lane were blocked off, and CL&P crews were working to repair the damaged pole, police said. The Westport Police Patrol Division was investigating the accident.
