Donors Fund Weston Police Tasers

WESTON, Conn. – After the Weston Board of Selectmen failed to act on the police department’s request for funding to purchase additional tasers on Sept. 6, the department sought donations from townspeople. Four responded, providing more than $12,000 - enough to purchase tasers for the department.

On Tuesday night, the Board of Police Commissioners announced receipt of three donations that will be reported to the selectmen, who can approve them at their next meeting.

Sumil and Vima Ippagunta donated $8,041, the amount initially reported that was needed to purchase the tasers. Dallas Kersey donated $1,000, and Brian Jaworoski donated $500. An initial donation of $1,000 was received last month.

Beth Gralnick, a member of the police commission, said the amount received will be enough to purchase the tasers and cartridges for each taser, with an additional expense for training cartridges not covered by the donations.

The commissioners passed a unanimous motion to approve receipt of the checks.
