Alexander Scott Lee faces charges of evading responsibility for a fatal accident, making an improper left turn and tampering with evidence, according to Bethel police. The accident occurred at the intersection of Route 302 and Old Hawleyville Road in Bethel on Oct. 20.
Police said Lee turned left on to Old Hawleyville as Steinert-Threlkeld approached the intersection from the other direction. Steinert-Threlked collided with the rear passenger side of the vehicle driven by Lee. A second vehicle turned on to Route 302 from Old Hawleyville and pinned the cyclist under the car. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
The accident occurred as Steinert-Threlkeld was returning home from a ride. He was about 12 miles from home when the accident occurred. An avid cyclist, Steinert-Threlkeld was the editorial director of B2B Publishing at IBT Media.
Lee was held on $150,000 bond and will be arraigned Wednesday in Danbury. He was arrested late Tuesday at his job in Brookfield. Lee is also facing drug and weapon possession charges in connection with an arrest in January 2012 and on Oct. 29 of this year.
