Shulamis Hoffmann, 84, Formerly Of Redding

REDDING, Conn. – Shulamis "Shirley" Hoffmann, a former Redding resident, died Aug. 8 at her home in Farmington, Conn. She was 84.

Born in Harbin, China, Hoffman was the daughter of Abraham and Fania Egootkin Froloff. She lived in Shanghai, China, where she met her husband of 60 years, Paul Hoffmann. They were residents of Redding before relocating to Farmington in 2002.

Hoffmann used her fluency in Russian to help re-settle Jews from the Soviet Union in the Bridgeport area. She volunteered for the Jewish Family Service, was an active member of the Jewish Community Center and a life member of Hadassah.

She enjoyed playing bridge, tennis, golf, reading and knitting caps for premature newborns. She especially enjoyed spending time with family, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Hoffmann is survived by two children, Abraham (Jayne) Hoffmann, of Trumbull and Jean (Douglas) Lewanda, of Farmington; four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Hoffmann was predeceased by her brother, Tuvia Froloff.

Services will take be held at 2 p.m. Friday at Abraham L. Green and Son Funeral Home in Fairfield. Burial will follow at Beth El Cemetery.
