REDDING, Conn. Maria Fatima Simoes Beck of Redding died Sept. 5 at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center in New York City after a five-year battle with ovarian cancer. She was 51.
Beck was born Jan. 16, 1961, in Portugal to Angelino and Solene Baio Simoes. She immigrated to the United States in 1967 and first settled in the Bronx, N.Y. She graduated from Baruch College in 1983 with a degree in international business.
A Connecticut resident for the past 24 years, she worked as a contract administrator for Noble Americas of Stamford. An avid reader, Beck also loved spending time with her family.
She is survived by two daughters, Sara Beck, of Thailand, and Michelle Beck, attending the University of Texas at Austin; a son, Nicholas Beck, of Redding; two brothers, Adelio Simoes, of Long Island, N.Y., and Idalio Simoes, of Slate Hill, N.Y.; and several cousins, nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at Kane Funeral Home in Ridgefield. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10:15 a.m. Thursday at St. Mary Church in Ridgefield.
