Lorna V. Neufeld, 92, Worked For Westport News

WESTPORT, Conn. - Lorna V. Neufeld of Westport died April 15. She was 92.

Neufeld was born Oct. 20, 1920, in Manhattan to Mildred Pelikan and Charles Gradwell. Her mother was remarried to I.D. Herring, and she took her stepfather’s last name. Her family moved to the Bronx, N.Y., where she attended Walton High School.

After graduation, she spent a year at the American Academy of Dramatic Arts. She worked as a personal assistant for the business magnate Helena Rubenstein and also at Adam Hats in Manhattan. While raising her family, she worked in a variety of administrative positions, including at the Schervier Nursing Care Center in Riverdale. 

The family moved to Westport in 1966. In the late 1960s and 1970s, Neufeld worked for several years in the classified department of the Westport News.

Neufeld was secretary of the Longshore Ladies 9-Hole Group.

Neufeld is survived by sons, Brian Neufeld of Westport, Michael Neufeld of Orange, and Alan Neufeld of North Miami Beach, Fla.; and seven grandchildren. She was predeceased by her mother; and her husband, Herbert.

A memorial service will be held Sunday, June 2, at 10:30 a.m. at Oak Lawn Cemetery Association, 1530 Bronson Road, Fairfield. Harding Funeral Home of Westport is handling arrangements.
