JoAnn Eichner, 80, Formerly Of Westport

WESTPORT, Conn. – JoAnn Mansfield Eichner, a former Westport resident, died Feb. 2 at her home in St. Simons Island, Ga. She was 80.

Eichner was born Feb. 11, 1932, in Etowah, Tenn. She graduated from Grady High School and attended Ward Belmont in Nashville. She started her career at Delta before becoming a reservation manager with Southern Airways.

She met I. John Eichner Jr. in 1958 in Atlanta. They were married on May 17, 1958, in Atlanta before settling in Houston, Texas.

The family moved to Westport in 1961, when her husband became an officer with American Airlines for five years. In 1966, her husband started an airline consulting firm, SH&E. They continued to live in Westport for the next 29 years until 1995.

In 1986, Eichner became an Ada Comstock Scholar at Smith College for 18 months. In 1994, the family purchased a retirement home in the Island Club and moved to St. Simons Island, Ga.

Eichner is survived by three children Jay (Margaret), Patrick (Darlene) and Malinda (Krister) Johnson; and seven grandchildren.

A celebration of life service was held Monday at St. Simons Presbyterian Church in Georgia.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to St. Simons Island Presbyterian Church Sunday School of the Hospice of the Golden Isles, Brunswick, Ga.
