Helen Mae Leamer, 95, Former Westport Resident

DENVILLE, N.J. - Helen Mae Leamer, a former Westport resident, died June 14. She was 95.

Leamer was born in Westport to Edward and Pearl Burkey. After graduating from Staples High School, she was accepted into the University of Chicago where she earned her BA in 1939. She was active in the community, worked part-time in the Vestal Library and was a member of the Vestal United Methodist Church.

Leamer is survived by her sons, Laurence (Vesna), Edward (Ama), and Robert (Mary Frances); six grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; two step-great grandchildren; sisters, Mary Walker, Florence Smith and Marjorie Markwell; many relatives; and friends. She was predeceased by her parents; and husband, Laurence.

A celebration of Leamer’s life will be held July 13 at noon at Franciscan Oaks, 19 Pocono Road, Denville, N.J.

In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to the University of Chicago, the Employee Appreciation Fund of Franciscan Oaks or any local public library of your choice.
