Florence Boyd, 95, Teacher, Formerly of Westport

EASTON, Conn. – Florence Von Zell Fagan Boyd of Easton died June 11 at her home. She was 95. 

A memorial service for the longtime Easton and Westport resident will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Christ Church in Easton. 

Born to John Fagan and Catherine Dallas Dixon, she was raised and educated in Philadelphia, Pa. Boyd attended the University of Pennsylvania and graduated with a certificate of teaching in 1937. 

She married Edward Finley Boyd Jr. of Westport in 1938. Boyd, also known as "Jinny," and her husband acted with the Westport Country Playhouse at the beginning of their marriage. They were married for more than 72 years, living in Westport and Easton. Her husband died in 2011.

Boyd worked as a teacher with Miss Bolton's School, Miss Orr's Nursery School and later taught Native American history at the Museum of Art, Science and Industry in Fairfield. Throughout her life, Boyd was an avid horsewoman, gardener and member of the Easton Historical Society. 

As a 54-year member of Christ Church in Easton, she headed the Altar Guild and served as senior warden, chalice minister and officient. She oversaw the search committee for new ministers and tended to the church grounds and gardens. 

Boyd is survived by four children, Catherine Boyd Lloyd, Edward F. Boyd III, Marguerite Taylor and Charles Boyd; a brother, George Fagan; four grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
