Women's League Honors Weston Student

The Weston Women's League has announced that Christina Welsh is the recipient of this year’s Youth Scholarship. The award comes in recognition of her service to Weston High School and the community.

"Christina's leadership in community service, her active volunteerism and her academic achievements at such a young age are truly admirable," said League President Heather Levy. "She embodies the spirit of the Weston Women's League."

Welsh has received many accolades for her academics and athletics. She is a president of the National Honor Society at Weston High School and is taking a full load of AP classes. Welsh also captained the women's varsity volleyball and basketball teams.

Welsh says she is interested in working for an international nonprofit as a career. Her passion for community service is evident in her extracurricular efforts. At school, Welsh is co-founder and treasurer of Habitat for Humanity, president of UNICEF, secretary of Key Club and participates in the Alcohol and Drug Awareness Program. She plans to spend the next year working in community service, perhaps in Africa, before attending Princeton University.

The league congratulates Christina on her many achievements and looks forward to hearing about her future endeavors. As part of the award, Christina received a gift in the amount of $500.

The Weston Women's League is dedicated to promoting a sense of community through civic services and fundraising for local charities. To date, it has donated more than $600,000 to charities in Weston and surrounding towns. Recent beneficiaries of fundraising efforts include Kids in Crisis in Norwalk, the Alcohol and Drug Awareness Program and Weston Education Foundation.
