The bridge, known officially as the William F. Cribari Memorial Bridge, was damaged during Hurricane Sandy. The bridge’s mechanical and electrical components underwent lengthy repair work, which started in February.
During Tuesday morning’s closure, the contractor, Cianbro Corp., will test the bridge's operation procedures after the repairs.
“The opening will be done as if it was for a vessel,” Cianbro Field Superintendent Gary Nash said in a statement. The duration of the closure is estimated to be 15 minutes. If needed, a second bridge opening, identical in procedure to the first, will be conducted a half-hour later to allow traffic to clear.
“The town regrets any inconvenience the bridge closure will cause," Joseloff said in the statement. "We thank citizens for their patience and cooperation."
