Westport Teen Charged With DUI

WESTPORT, Conn. – An 18-year-old Westport resident was charged with drunken driving Thursday morning after he was found sleeping in his car, which had been in an accident, police said.

Police said they found Steven Smith, of Maple South Avenue, asleep in his car, parked in the St. Luke Church parking lot on Turkey Hill Road North. The car, according to the police report, was running and its right front tire was flat. There also was damage to the right front bumper and the passenger side mirror, police said. Smith, when awoken, told officers he drove into a curb but could not remember where, police said.

Smith’s speech was slurred and the officers smelled alcohol on his breath, the police report states. He failed field sobriety tests and later submitted to a urine test, police said. He was charged with driving under the influence, a misdemeanor. He was released after posting a $500 bond and is due to appear in court June 14.

The accident location could not be determined, police said.
