WESTPORT, Conn. – Westport residents will have an opportunity to hear about coastal map changes and discuss flood insurance with representatives from the Federal Emergency Management Agency and the state Department of Energy & Environmental Protection during a public informational meeting in Fairfield Tuesday night.
This year, coastal communities throughout the state received updated coastal flood insurance rate map panels. The Biggert-Waters Flood Insurance Reform Act of 2012 made extensive changes to the National Flood Insurance Program, including the gradual elimination of subsidized rates for older homes built before the flood maps. The meeting will allow residents an opportunity to view the new maps, understand the changes that are taking place to flood insurance rates and learn more about financial steps that they may need to take to protect their investment.
Staff from FEMA and the DEEP will answer questions and provide a short presentation.
The meeting will be held in cafeteria at Ludlowe High School, 785 Unquowa Road, Fairfield, from 5 to 8 p.m.
