Westport Police Enhance Sketch of Murder Suspect

WESTPORT, Conn. – The suspect in last week's homicide and robbery at a Westport jewelry business is still being sought, and police are calling on all residents for help.

An enhanced sketch of the man suspected of killing longtime Westport resident Yekutiel Zeevi, owner of Y.Z. Jewelry Manufacturing, and injuring his New York City associate, Ronen Konfino, was released by police Tuesday morning. Zeevi died of multiple gun shot wounds and his death has been ruled a homicide, according to the Chief Medical Examiner's Office.

The suspect made an appointment with Zeevi and Konfino on Wednesday, Dec. 7, in response to a weekly newspaper ad that Zeevi placed about buying/selling diamonds, police said. That day, the suspect was captured on video surveillance wearing a solid green color quilted jacket and carrying a green umbrella. He was also seen driving a blue four-door, "boxy" vehicle, such as a Scion or Nissan Cube, with no front license plate.

On the night Zeevi was shot to death, the suspect was wearing a blue or blue-green jacket with darker colored sleeves and shoulders and a light-colored horizontal stripe around the waist. On both days, the suspect was wearing black framed glasses, a dark wool driving cap, jeans and cowboy boots with a zippered front, police said.

The suspect is described as a white male in his mid-40s, between 5-foot-10 and 6-foot, of medium build and with short salt-and-pepper hair. He had three to four days of facial hair at the time of the crime, police said.

The Westport Police Department is asking anyone that may have seen this individual in the Town of Westport or elsewhere to call the Westport Police Department Detective Bureau at 203-341-6080. All calls will be kept confidential.
